Elon Musk Announces Twitter to Provide Free API for ‘Good Content’ Bots

Elon Musk said Twitter would provide a write-only API for bots that produce ‘good’ material.

Twitter announced last week that it will be shutting down the free API access starting on February 9. Elon Musk has now said, just days before the deadline is set, that Twitter will offer a write-only interface for \”bots that provide good content, which is free.\”

This decision is just as opaque as other decisions made by Musk. No information is available on who will determine what \”good content\” means. If Twitter implements this rule, bots may have a new chance to survive on Twitter.

Twitter had previously shut down API access for third-party clients, claiming they violated a \”longstanding rule\” but without specifying what that rule was. The company then silently updated their developer terms so that apps can’t use or access Licensed Materials in order to create or try to create a similar product or service to Twitter Applications.
