Unprecedented Discovery: Space Radar Tech Uncovers Hundreds of Ships Hiding Outside North Korean Port

Space radar technology reveals hundreds hidden ships outside North Korean port

The use of artificial intelligence and space-radar technology to detect hidden vessels outside North Korea’s biggest port has revealed the sheer volume of ships trying to hide their tracks.

Global Fishing Watch (GFW) synthetic-aperture radar (SAR), data reveals that hundreds of vessels – many of which were cargo ships – have been spotted outside Nampho over the past few weeks, despite not being broadcasted on traditional maritime channels.

Satellites open-source can detect vessels that enter North Korean waters by turning off their automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders.
