Revolutionizing Machine Learning with Optomemristors: Exploring Light-based Artificial Neural Networks

Light up artificial neural networks using optomemristors

A team of scientists from around the world has performed complex machine learning calculations using a device called an \”optomemristor\” that is nano-scale.

The chalcogenide device is a thin-film device that uses light and electrical signals in order to simulate the multi-factor biological computations performed by mammalian neurons. It consumes very little power.

Research on hardware for machine learning and artificial intelligence applications has focused mainly on the development of electronic or photonic neurons and synapses, and how to combine these to perform basic neural-type processing.
