Meta researchers create AI which masters Diplomacy and tricks human players
Meta AI announced on Tuesday the development of Cicero. It claims that this AI is the first AI capable of achieving human-level performance at the strategic boardgame Diplomacy. This is a noteworthy achievement, as the game requires a high level of interpersonal negotiation skills.
Before Deep Blue defeated Garry Kasparov in 1997 at chess, board games provided a good measure of AI progress. AlphaGo beat Lee Sedol, the Go master in 2015. Both games have a fairly clear set of rules for analysis (although the rules of Go are usually simplified by computer AI).
