Quantum Machine Learning in Infinite Dimensions

Computer science is home to a field that is both fascinating and exciting: machine learning. This excitement has recently been transferred to quantum information. All proposals for the quantum machine learning version currently use discrete variables with a finite-dimensional basis. We generalize quantum learning to infinite-dimensional, more complex but still practical systems. We present the key subroutines for quantum machine learning algorithms that are used in an all-photonic continuous variable quantum computer. These algorithms can result in exponential speedups when classical algorithms scale polynomially. We also present an experimental implementation that can be used to create a blueprint for photonic demonstrations in the future.
