US observes Russian Navy preparing to test nuclear-powered torpedo

CNN reported that a senior US official who has direct knowledge of the situation said that in recent weeks they observed Russian naval ships preparing to test a nuclear-powered missile.

Belgorod is a modified cruise missile submarine for special operations, which can launch unmanned underwater vehicles such as the Poseidon Torpedo.

The vessels have been seen leaving the Arctic Sea testing area and returning to port in the past week without performing a test. The US believes that the Russians could have experienced technical difficulties.
