In the recently released World Robotics Report, 517 385 new industrial robotics will be installed in 2021, a record high. This represents a growth of 31% on an annual basis. This brought the total number of robots in operation around the world to 3.5 million. It was a record.

The world record for robots was achieved half a decade after the creation of SHAKEY, which was the first \”mobile intelligent\” robot. According to the IEEE Milestone citation from 2017, it \”could sense its environment, infer implicit from explicit facts, create plans and recover from mistakes in plan execution. It could also communicate in ordinary English.\”

The robot that would start the Third Industrial Revolution.
