The Characterization of Shadowed Areas in the Artemis Exploration Zone

No more dark sides of the Moon

Artificial intelligence was used by an international team of researchers led by ETH Zurich to investigate the permanently shadowed areas of the Moon. The knowledge gained by future lunar missions about the physical properties of the area will help them find suitable spots.

Geophysical Research Letters published the research on August 26, 2009.

We produced the first high signal-to-noise-ratio and-resolution images of 44 shadowed areas within the Artemis exploration area using an AI tool.
