Artificial intelligence folds RNA molecule
The three-dimensional structure of biomolecules is essential to their function. Researchers are interested not only in the sequence of individual building blocks in biomolecules but also their spatial structure. Bioinformaticians are able to predict with high accuracy the three-dimensional structure a protein based on its amino acid sequence using artificial intelligence. This technology is not yet mature for RNA molecules. Researchers from Ruhr-Universitat Bochum describe how to use AI in order to predict the structure and nucleotide composition of certain RNA molecules. This will be published on 7th July 2022 in the journal PLOS.
The teams headed by Vivian Brandenburg, Professor Franz Narberhaus and Professor Axel Mosig of the Bioinformatics Competence Area of Bochum Center for Protein Diagnostics worked together on the project.
