Trust in AI as Much as Humans: An Analysis of User Attitudes Towards AI-Powered Content Curation

Users are just as likely to trust AI as they are humans in flagging up problematic content

Researchers at Penn State say that social media users could trust AI as much as they do human editors in flagging hate speech and harmful material.

Researchers found that users show greater trust in AI when they think of positive attributes like accuracy and objectivity. Users’ trust in AI is reduced if they are reminded that machines cannot make subjective decisions.

The findings could help developers create better AI-powered curation systems to handle the huge amounts of data currently being generated, while avoiding a perception that material was censored or incorrectly classified.
