The Open-Source AI Art Revolution: The Risk of Unrestricted Access

This AI art generator is open to all users — but there’s a risk.

The Verge reports that Emad Mostaque is the CEO of Stability AI. The company has funded Stable Diffusion’s development. We’ve seen people as young as three years old to those in their 90s create for the very first time. We’ve seen some people create things that are incredibly hateful.

Stable Diffusion could be the catalyst for AI-generated art to really take off. The software is free, easy to create on, and removes many of the barriers that prevent users from creating. This makes it difficult to predict what will happen next.

Open source is what makes Stable Diffusion different from other AI art generators. Even Midjourney, another text-to image model being developed outside the Big Tech compound, doesn’t provide such a comprehensive level of access to its software.
