Tesla will get Robotaxi to scale 5-10 years before competitors $TSLA
Ford and VW pulled out of Argo AI, a self-driving company. They had spent over $3 billion. This is a clear indication that Lidar-dependent autonomous driving has a way to go. Lidar was used by all the companies that make self-driving cars except Tesla and Comma. Ford has said that removing the drivers is more than 5 years away. For most robotaxi players, their business models are only viable if the driver is removed. Tesla would have an 8-year advantage if it could solve robotaxi within 2 years. Uber was 2.5 years ahead of Lyft, which meant that Uber’s market share was three times greater.
