NASA engineer trains AI to be GPS-like to guide astronauts on the lunar surface
A system that uses artificial intelligence to guide explorers on the moon surface is currently being developed.
Scientists have spent years trying to find a way to travel on the surface of the moon without the GPS that we use here on Earth.
On Earth, landmarks such as trees or buildings can be used to measure distances in a fuzzy way. However, these features are not present on the Moon.

The Moon’s atmosphere being thinner than Earth makes it difficult to judge the distance and size of distant landmarks.
