Microscopic Swimming Robots Clear Pneumonia from Mice’s Lungs

Mice’s lungs have been cleared of pneumonia by tiny robots

Scientists were able to direct microscopic swimming robotics to remove pneumonia microbes from the lungs and bronchi of mice. This raises hopes that a treatment similar to this could be developed for deadly bacterial pneumonitis in humans.

The microbots consist of algae cells covered in a thin layer of nanoparticles. The algae move through the lungs which is crucial to the treatment’s effectiveness.

In tests, mice who were treated with algae bots had all their infections cleared up. The mice that were not treated died all within three days.
