What are the effects of AI, Bard and ChatGPT on layoffs and hiring?
We tend to count layoffs in every recession. Dell is the most recent, having announced that it would cut 6,650 positions or 5% from its workforce. Layoffs.fyi is a clever but incomplete job-cutting tracker. According to it, tech companies have laid off 95,000 employees in the first five week of 2019. This is about 60% of what they reported for 2022.

The recovery is determined by how we hire, not the number of layoffs. Generative AI such as Chat GPT can change the situation.
