Ray Kurzweil’s opinion letter on the request for a six-month delay on large language models beyond GPT-4

Kurzweil says NO, on AI pause non sense.

This criterion, which is part of the Open Letter asking for a \”pause\” in research on AI that’s \”more powerful than GPT-4\”, is far too vague to be useful. The proposal is also faced with a serious coordination issue: those who agree to a \”pause\” may be far behind nations or corporations that disagree. AI advancements can have a huge impact on critical areas such as medicine, health, education, the pursuit of renewable energies to replace fossil fuels and many other fields. I did not sign because I think we can address signers’ concerns about safety in a way that does not compromise these important lines of research.
