Unlocking the Potential of Organoid Intelligence: Biocomputing Beyond Artificial Intelligence

Organoid intelligence is the future of computing.

Researchers have recently presented a concept known as organoid Intelligence, which aims to develop a new generation biocomputers. Researchers are hoping to use advances in the in vitro reproduction of brain cells to provide superior intelligence for computers and smart devices in the future. This technology promises to offer superior intelligence than artificial intelligence currently available.

In a paper published in Frontiers of Science by a number of scientists, mostly from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, this notion of organoid intelligent is explained. They claim that the work done on cerebral organoids derived from stem cells of human beings will allow for entities with memory and learning to be reproduced in a relatively short time. Organoids are miniaturized organs that have been grown in vitro. Organoid Intelligence (OI), which encompasses these developments, is a term that encompasses them all. It leads to a type of biological computing – or biocomputing – that uses neurons bred and grown in a laboratory. This is enough to make ChatGPT and similar systems seem dated.

Eventually, complex interfaces such as brain organoids could be connected with sensory organoids like retinal organoids. This could lead to, for instance, new therapeutic applications.
