The Problematic Nature of Generative AI
Refrain from taking credit for the patchwork of others’ work. Prove that you are great by articulating your unique ideas and thoughts in unique ways. There has never been a greater opportunity for ambitious people to achieve greatness. While others create and consume synthetically generated content, such as drones flying in a constant hover state, non-drones have the opportunity to fly higher and farther.
Students who manipulate the system to have ChatGPT create essays, for example, miss out on an opportunity to learn. They also demonstrate a dangerously low understanding of ethics, and they prove that they are no better than anyone else. Students who are able to learn independently, express original ideas and have a passion about a topic will continue to outperform machines.
Humanity’s future is the fusion of human and machine skills. Machines should handle what can be predicted and regurgitated, while humans should take care of the things that require judgment or rational thought. It’s important to note that generative AI is not a panacea or a crutch. Nor does it pose a threat to human beings. We are the only species that can synthesize ideas, form opinions and make decisions based on ethical standards. Use this historical moment to invest in humanity and embrace the future.
