Robot Defies Newton’s Third Law: Exploring New Possibilities for Locomotion Without Propellants

The curvature of the space robot is a defiance to known laws of physics

The robot, which can operate in curved spaces without using propellants, is a new technology for space locomotives.

Georgia Institute of Technology’s (Georgia Tech), a robot-engineering company, has achieved the unthinkable by flouting a law of motion that is a given. This suggests new laws are needed. These new principles could be used to create new ways of locomotion that do not require propellants.

You’ve probably seen the funny slapstick joke where an unwitting person steps on a banana skin and lands comically on his rump. The joke is based, not on what it may seem, but on Newton’s Third Law of Motion.

Newton’s third Law states that every action has an equal and opposite response. When we take a step forward, the Earth pushes us back. This only works because of friction. If there’s no friction (or minimal friction, like when there’s a banana peel on the floor), there’s no push. We just slide over the ground, and we can fall back down to Earth.
