Google Cuts 12,000 Jobs in Latest Round of Big Tech Layoffs

Google cuts 12,000 positions in the latest round of layoffs for big tech

Google CEO Sundar Pichai sent an email to employees announcing the news, saying that the company must focus on its key priorities like artificial intelligence.

Google has announced the elimination of approximately 12,000 positions. It is the latest major technology company to lay off significant numbers as inflation increases and markets prepare for a global downturn.

Sundar Pichai, Google’s SEO, announced the job cuts via a Friday email to employees and a blog. Google has lost around 6 percent (or 6,000 jobs) of its global workforce. This is compared with recent layoffs by Microsoft (10, 000 jobs or 5 percent), Amazon (18,000 jobs / 6%) and Meta (11,000 jobs / 13%).

Sundar Pichai says that Google should focus on AI and other key areas.
